COVR Medical: Armoring Patient Dignity and Modesty

COVR Medical: Armoring Patient Dignity and Modesty

Despite all the advancements in medical science around the world, the fundamental modesty and dignity of patients is still compromised. To this day, patients harbor a fear of exposure during surgeries and other medical procedures. An article in the Chicago Tribune titled, "The naked patient: the modesty movement won't take it lying down," reflected the extent of anxiety and vulnerability that patients felt in being completely naked during medical procedures. The article also mentioned that even though the physicians and nurses have seen thousands of people's private parts, it still didn't change the fact about patient anxiety.

It is said that necessity is the mother invention. Dr. Bruce Levy, the Founder, and CEO of COVR Medical, himself being an orthopedic surgeon, felt responsible and made it his duty to protect his patients' modesty. "A small blue towel is really inadequate at doing that during the surgery," Dr. Levy said. When he searched the online market for a better solution, he found none which could ensure the privacy of patients. Dr. Levy realized what was needed to be done, and COVR garments were the perfect solution for the problem.

COVR, which is pronounced "cover," is the first-'ever medical garment that conceals the private areas of a patient, both front and back, and still gives medical teams access to the procedural site. It is designed with total adherence to FDA requirements and operating room guidelines and is regulated as a Class 1 Medical Device. The garments are also tested to global standards for cytotoxicity, sensitivity, and allergenicity and meet the NFPA fire prevention standards. COVR Medical currently offers two different products in a variety of pediatric and adult sizes. The first is the Half Short medical garment. Much like a pair of shorts cut in half, the product offers access for right-sided or left-sided procedures, whilst concealing the patient's private areas. The garment is designed to be reversible, which means that a garment can be turned inside-out and used for either right or left side operations.

Ultimately, the goal and primary mission of COVR medical is to raise the standard of care for patient privacy and dignity without compromising on the quality of medical care that the patient receives

The second product is the Bilateral medical garment, which is designed like a brief but with a front panel that can be retracted towards the middle of the body from both sides, resulting in a narrow strip that maintains the patient's privacy. It is ideal for medical procedures such as Cath Lab, Ultrasound-guided Hip Injections, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, and anywhere that access to both sides of the groin area is necessary.

The innovative thought and high standards with which these products were developed are indicative of the experts behind the company. The COVR team has manufacturing experts with over 40 years of experience in the textiles and garments industry and healthcare experts who have spent their careers inside the operating room. The company also has an efficient design team that ensures the end-product offers optimal protection of the patient's privacy while still providing medical teams with the necessary access to perform the procedures.
Dr.Levy reflected his views on the significance of the patient experience, mentioning a patient in New York who knew the extent of exposure in the operating theatre and was more concerned about the exposure of his body than the surgical procedure itself. After being told about COVR medical garments, the patient was relieved, and his anxiety was alleviated; that is the purpose of the product.

In addition to the countless number of overwhelming positive feedbacks, COVR Medical is keen to continue to innovate in this area and looks to bring additional solutions and greater awareness to the issue of patient exposure. We have other products in the pipeline that are still in the developmental stage and that address many other patient privacy and anxiety concerns with certain medical and surgical procedures," says Dr.Levy. "Ultimately, the primary mission of COVR Medical is to raise the standard of care for patient privacy and dignity without compromising on the quality of medical care that the patient receives," he concludes.
